Am I eating genetically engineered radicchio?

No. Approval for use of a GE male-sterile radicchio variety for breeding purposes was granted in late 1997, but was voluntarily withdrawn by the developer (Bejo Zaden) in 1999. GE radicchio has never been marketed.

Radicchio is also often called radicchio rosso, red-hearted chicory, or Italian chicory.
